Laser Removal of Blood Vessels
For those who are tired of those small blood vessels
around the nose, cheeks
or chin there is a very effective alternative in laser therapy.
The Pulsed Dye Laser is a result of fine tuned technology
which “sizzles shut” the tiny veins without scarring
the overlying skin. Once you and Dr Coker have discussed which areas
are to be treated you are placed in a reclining position and asked
to wear a pair of safety goggles. The laser light is aimed directly
over the skin with a hand piece that also gently blows a cool air
to help minimize any discomfort. The light is emitted in short sequences
and is often described as a tiny slap of the skin. Everyone admits
that it is a little uncomfortable but is also short lived and never
as bad as they had anticipated.

This laser is most effective on facial
blood vessels (or telangiectasias). Other treatments
include: certain types of vascular birth marks, stretch
marks or acne scars which are reddish in color, & small
blood moles on the trunk. People with rosacea often suffer
from a reddish flush of the nose or cheeks and can be
treated with this laser.

Immediately following the treatment you will see a
reddish color and mild swelling. This turns into a deeper red or
purple color over the next day or two. This “bruise” is
difficult to cover with make-up! Usually the color begins to fade
after 3 to 5 days and disappears completely after 5 to 8 days. .
This is very safe and every precaution is taken during
the treatment. Dr Leslie R. Coker performs each procedure, not a
medical assistant or technician. Destroying these blood vessels
does not result in tissue damage or oxygen starvation. Possible
side effects, although infrequent, include a brownish discoloration
that lingers after the “bruise” has faded or a thin
blister.
