Prom night is around the corner. You’ve bought your elegant dress, found classy shoes, and even attempted a dramatic waterfall hairstyle. But the key to feeling confident in every photo on prom night is feeling good in the skin you’re in!
You may be asking yourself what you can do to achieve beautiful, glowing skin for your special night. Follow these five essential tips for your best results.
Nobody wants dry, flaky skin when they’re headed to the prom.
One of the keys to moist, smooth skin is exfoliation. By removing the build-up of dry, dead skin cells, your skin in turn will be smoother and you’ll be able to hold on to hydration better. Treatments such as facials, dermasweep, and dermaplaning incorporate exfoliation and allow your skin to be smoother, not have as much build up, and allow for better product penetration. That way moisturizers, serums, and acne treatments better bind moisture to the skin and keep your skin hydrated and glowing for your prom night.
Be sure to drink plenty of water.
Make water your new best friend. Drop the soda, sugary and caffeinated drinks. Don’t let even a little dehydration make your skin look dull. Start drinking those 8-10 glasses of water every day for a radiant complexion come prom night.
Ready your pucker with moist lips.
Some of the best hydrating ingredients for dry lips are beeswax, shea butter, Vitamin E, and, yes, petroleum jelly. Use a lip balm brand with these ingredients leading up to prom night to help your lips be soft, smooth, and luxurious for lipstick application. Remember, most lipsticks inherently tend to be dry. Keep your hydrating lip balm with you wherever you go.
Build your color safely.
If you’re looking for a “just back from a week at the beach” look, stay away from the tanning bed. Tanning before age 30 can increase your skin cancer chances by 75%! It’s not worth it. Using a buildable oil-free self-tanner will gradually give your skin the natural golden color you’re seeking. Start two weeks before prom night to give yourself enough time to gradually build your tan up to the bronze-y glow you want.
Prepare your skin to apply your gorgeous makeup.
Remove peach fuzz and exfoliate away dead skin cells with a dermaplaning treatment. It creates a smoother canvas for makeup application. When you apply foundations, powder, and the rest of your makeup, it goes on more beautifully and flawlessly. Then the week before prom, do your best to wear as little makeup as possible. Don’t forget to wash your makeup off each night to lower the chance of breakouts.
Get ready to dance, socialize, and have a great time at your prom night this year!
